EduHelpIndia Rating: [This rating is based on popularity only]
Kalyani Government Engineering College was set up in the name of Kalyani Engineering College on 28th August 1995. It was inaugurated by Sri K. V. Raghunath Reddy, the then Hon'ble Governor of West Bengal where Sri Jyoti Basu, Chief Minister of West Bengal was in Hon'ble Chief Guest. Prof. Satya Sadhan Chakraborty, MIC Higher Education Department, Government of West Bengal was the President in that auspicious occasion. The first Principal of the college was Dr. D. N. Roy of Kalyani, Nadia. The college started functioning in a part of the Research Complex Building and also in a portion of the Research Scholars' Hostel under occupation of Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya (BCKV) with the three engineering disciplines viz. Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science and Technology and Electronics and Communication Engineering having student intake cpacity of 40 in each discipline. Initially the college was provided a floor space of about 28,000 sq. ft. in the Research Complex Building by BCKV and affiliated to the University of Kalyani. The then Vice-Chancellor, B C K V was agreed to vacate the entire Research Complex Building and existing Research Scholars' Hostel and shift it to Mohanpur Campus gradually in phases as and when alternative facilities of built up floor space, farm area etc. are made available to B C K V. However, The Government of West Bengal has handed over 75 (seventy five) acres of land to Kalyani Government Engineering College within the campus of Kalyani University vide G.O. No. 244 Edn(T) dated the 3rd June 1997 where the building of Directorate of Research, two hostels and two Rearch Farms of BCKV are there. But at present the college is occupying about 72000 sq.ft. only of building of Directorate of Research of BCKV. Now, the Kalyani Government Engineering College requires additional space for its proper functioning and as the B C K V is unable to vacate the entire complex and hostels, the college authority is now moving towards the Government for amicable solution by sending a project proposal on expansion of the college and to gear up the space problem with it's new location. The college is now under the umbrella of West Bengal University of Technology. At present B. Tech. courses in Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Information Technology, Electrical Engineering and Master of Computer Application are there. Besides, M.Tech. courses in Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering and Production Engineering are running from the academic session 2003-2004. The college has modern up-to-date facilities in all respects viz. Library, Laboratory, Mechanical Engineering Workshop, Computational Centre, Language Laboratory, Astronomy Gallery, Training and Placement Cell etc.
